Cuthbert Syn is not having a good day today.
The man has been identified and vilified all over the internet for a recent incident that took place on the MRT — in which he simple refuses to give up his reserved seat to a struggling mother with a baby boy.
Commuter Celine Chia recounted the whole thing on her Facebook page (which has since been taken down), and the internet collectively erupted in rage over his perceived obstinance. Judge it for yourself below:
Later on, the mother did manage to rest after a lady sitting beside Syn gave up her seat.
The man in the middle of the whole madness however responded on his own Facebook page with a quote from Matthew 5:10, indicating that he has no regrets at all over his actions. Possibly because he claims to have been feeling tired, and felt that his heart was acting up again.
Untrue or legitimate, the whole incident does point out the questionable nature of ‘Reserved Seating’ on the MRTs. Everyone’s raging hard on Syn — but really, anyone can give up seats to those in need no matter where you’re seated. The fact that Chia chose to rib Syn over his size (hashtags and all) is perhaps uncalled for as well.
