We’re glad that he made it home safe and sound — but damn, this man must really love his durians (Durio zibethinus).

Low Ah Kay, 57, had gone into a forested area in Jurong last Thursday (Jul 6) to pick durians, Lianhe Wanbao reports, and that morning was the last time anyone saw him. Four days after the police put up a missing person notice, he was finally found in a forested area along Kranji Expressway yesterday afternoon, putting an end to the search and rescue operations.

Low’s daughter had previously told STOMP that her father had mild dementia and suffered a stroke in the past — raising the urgency for the search.

A massive search operation by the police, as well as Low’s family and friends, was conducted on Sunday at a forested area along Jurong Road. At least five police vehicles were at the scene, with dogs to help out at the search.

Police carried out the search for 12 hours — an operation that was lasted from 4pm on Sunday and ended at 4am on Monday, with no sign of Low.

It was only when operations resumed later that they managed to find the man uninjured around 12pm. The man was taken semi-conscious to Ng Teng Fong Hospital later on.

It’s unclear if he managed to find any durians during his expedition.
