Mischief can only go so far before it’s no longer a joke. Apparently, someone has been laying upright nails inserted into lemon peels along a small section of a service road and a small area of grass patch in the vicinity of a Toa Payoh HDB estate.

Unfortunately, a man stepped on one of them and bled profusely from his foot. For whatever reason, that’s totally not cool.

Nicholas Ang was walking his dogs along Toa Payoh Lorong 1 on July 30 when he stepped on something sharp and screamed in pain. He ripped off his sandal with the 2-inch nail embedded in it, causing his foot to bleed profusely.

Two men heard his cries and attended to him — upon closer inspection, they realized that about 10 more screws were deliberately scattered nearby, inserted into lemon peels to ensure the pointy parts stood up. It was fortunate for him that the screws had no signs of rust.

He took to Facebook with a lengthy post to warn others staying around the vicinity to look out for the makeshift stingers. Don’t worry, he’s fine now after a tetanus shot, some antibiotics and some pain killers.

Unfortunately, the CCTVs in the area only cover stairwells and lift lobbies, which means the service road where he got injured didn’t have any surveillance. Police have since stepped up their patrols after he lodged a report.

Edit: Article has been amended to reflect the correct area where the screws were scattered. Apologies if we caused some alarm!
