A fight initiated by a drunken man ended in typical fashion — bloodied up and in handcuffs.
32-year-old Tan Boon Hai had been out for a drinking session with friends at a coffeeshop along Teck Whye Lane in the wee hours of the morning on Jan 28, The Straits Times reports. After downing just two bottles of beer (what a lightweight), the slightly inebriated man spotted 62-year-old Toh Chui Lim sitting at another table and for some reason, felt the need to attack him.
Tan made his move on the elderly man just as Toh was leaving the coffeeshop — the drunken fool smashed a beer mug on Toh’s head, and even stomped on his upper body when he fell to the ground.
The assault left the sexagenarian with a 4cm-long cut on his head.
In court, Tan pleaded guilty to hurting Toh, while two other charges of committing a rash act and hurting his wife were considered as well during sentencing.
He’ll be staying sober in prison, serving a nine-month sentence.
