Alarming footage of an individual who fell from height emerged on Facebook today — but we’re happy to report that he turned out relatively alright, thanks to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
Not much context was provided for this clip shared by Fabrications About The PAP on Facebook, except that it allegedly took place earlier today at the Fernvale residential neighborhood in Sengkang. The video immediately starts off with a distressing scene: What appears to be a young man perched on a parapet outside the window of an HDB unit. A window pane is swung right open, implying that he could have climbed out.
With his feet dangling in mid-air, he suddenly let out a desperate yelp and fell, his body contorting in mid-air. His fall from the parapet, however, was cushioned by SCDF’s deployed airbag and it managed to save him from certain death.
Even after slamming down hard on the inflated airbag, the man appeared to have turned out relatively okay, as he managed to roll around. SCDF firefighters and medics rushed to retrieve him, and they helped to set him up on a stretcher.
It’s important to note that even though he landed on the optimal section of the SCDF life pack, it’s likely that he would have sustained some injuries from the impact. Fortunately for him, SCDF rescuers managed to find some space to fully deploy and inflate the airbag — people have died before when the life pack could not be positioned properly due to ground constraints.
We’re contacting the Singapore Police Force for more details on the case.
