The Singapore Police arrested a 27-year-old man yesterday for possession of a katana after receiving reports that the man had been holding the sword while chasing somebody along Hougang Street 61.

After police arrived on the scene, they used security cameras and eyewitness statements to establish the man’s identity and arrest him.

According to a statement released by the police, the katana, which measured 73cm in length, was found in the trunk of the man’s car.

It is unclear what caused the incident but nobody was reported injured.

The 27-year-old was charged in court today for possession of a scheduled weapon under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, which carries a potential sentence of up to 5 years and 6 strokes of the cane.

In addition to swords, other scheduled weapons included in the 1958 act include various types of combat knives, whips made out of bicycle chains, and nunchucks (apologies to all of you Michealanglo cosplayers).
