Despite coming from a wealthy family and living in an elegant house along Melrose Drive, Alex Yeo still resorted to housebreaking and stealing — from his own family, no less.
The 32-year-old has since been jailed last week after pleading guilty to four counts of theft and one of housebreaking with theft in a crime spree that began in December 2014, reports The New Paper.
Yeo had broken into his younger sister’s home located several houses away from his family’s, where he looted a Rolex and an Audemars Piguet from her boyfriend. Together valued at $38,000, they were then pawned for cash, which he used for personal expenses.
In May 2015, he stole from his own father by withdrawing a total of $3,188.04 using an ATM card that belonged to him.
In September last year, while his sister was on holiday, Yeo broke into her house once again, sneaking into the master bedroom and looting even more watches — this time three Richard Mille timepieces. Those watches alone cost $340,000 in total.
He pawned them at a Bedok Central pawnshop and used the cash to pay for items, including a stay at a Resorts World Sentosa hotel.
The sister got back days later, only to find the watches missing. The police were called in and Yeo was arrested. Fortunately, the Richard Mille watches were recovered.
As for Yeo, he may have broken the law; but alas, breaking his family’s trust is the bigger atrocity.
