Man arrested for six cases of rental scams in Serangoon

Another conman has been arrested over a series of rental scams, this time in Serangoon.

Six similar reports were lodged by victims of the scam between January and February this year, where they responded to online ads about a room for rent at Block 262 along Serangoon Central. The victims were told to paid deposits ranging from $800 to $1,900 before they could move into the flat — but after they were paid, the fake agent would be uncontactable.

After extensive investigations and enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division arrested the 36-year-old suspect in Eunos two days ago.

Police have advised folks to visit the flat they wish to rent and ensure that the dealer is the rightful flat owner by requesting documentary proof. Or they could just enlist a registered property agent to help them find a place to rent.

If the man is convicted for the offence of cheating, he could face imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine.

Not too long ago. a man was also arrested for running over 20 cases of rental scams across the country.
