Man arrested for robbing woman at knifepoint in Ang Mo Kio

Police have arrested a 36-year-old man believed to be involved in an armed robbery.

A 27-year-old woman had called the police on Aug. 3 to report having been robbed at knifepoint when she was about to enter her house in Ang Mo Kio Street 51.

Fearing for her life, she handed over her handbag containing cash and identification documents to the suspect, who later fled.

Police responded to the case immediately, conducting ground enquiries and investigative probes, eventually identifying the suspect via CCTV footage.

In an operation conducted on National Day, Aug. 9, officers picked up the suspect after spotting him in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8.

The victim’s handbag and personal belongings were recovered.

The suspect is expected to be charged today for armed robbery and may face up to 14 years in jail and no less than 12 strokes of the cane.
