Freelancing is tough business nowadays — everyone wants to exploit services without paying for them. Welcome to the millennial generation.
Professional makeup artist Daisy Wong was asked through online marketplace Carousell to provide makeup services for a couple doing a photoshoot for their second anniversary as part of a collaboration. The cheapskate Carouseller, whose identity was not revealed, apparently thought it would be a great idea to pay her by offering her free “exposure” (ugh). Instead of fees, Wong would get a full set of photos from the shoot to use as ‘marketing material’.

Wong wasn’t buying any of it, and she kindly rejected the offer from the get-go. Because ‘exposure’ ain’t gonna pay the bills.

Presumably offended by the rejection, the Carouseller then remarked that Wong didn’t have to be “arrogant” — and that was where he/she lost the plot. (Note: Photographer was initially to be paid, but apparently will not be paid after all.)

With the patience of a saint (we’d probably be ignoring the cheapskate by now), Wong proceeded to explain what exactly entails a collaboration.

In a petulant response, the Carouseller complained about the long reply. This, despite having asked earlier about the definition of a collaboration.

You asked for an explanation, you got one. Can’t have your cake and still eat it.

When steam ran out, the Carouseller replied with “try to learn some basic (customer service) first”. Wong had an apt response.
