The World’s Best Airport has another cause for celebration as it welcomes 60 million passengers (and counting) in 2017 — a first in a calendar year for Changi Airport. Previous years saw the numbers steadily climbing from 51.2 million in 2012 to 58.7 million last year.

With this major milestone, Changi Airport now handles 10 million more passenger movements than it did five years ago. More than 100 airlines operate at the airport, connecting our Little Red Dot to about 380 cities in 90 countries and territories across the globe. Over 7,000 flights are scheduled each week, which amounts to an aircraft landing or taking off at the airport approximately once every 90 seconds.

To commemorate this event, a celebration was hosted at the transit area of Terminal 2 yesterday afternoon with passengers on Scoot flight TR7 from Australia’s Gold Coast. The plane was identified as the one carrying Changi Airport’s 60 millionth passenger this year.

Besides being treated to a buffet spread and receiving goodie bags stuffed with items like neck pillows and gift cards, passengers also got the chance to participate in a quiz game, which ended with six passengers winning prizes such as luxury watches, an iPhone X, and round-trip tickets to Scoot destinations.

According to Airports Council International, Changi Airport was named the sixth busiest in the world for 2016, behind Dubai, London, and Hong Kong, which took the top three spots.
