Lucasfilm sets up the Sandcrawler building in Singapore

American film and television production company Lucasfilm, has set up its new office the Sandcrawler building, in Singapore’s One North.

At 22,500 square metres with a 100-seat theatre, state-of-the-art digital production equipment and retail space, the Sandcrawler building derives its name from a large treaded vehicle in the original Star Wars film.

According to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Singapore’s interactive and digital media industry’s value-add has grown 1.5 times to exceed $2 billion and will continue to grow.

He also said that more support will be given to strengthen the industry in the form of talent development and infrastructure investment.

With regards to the cluster of interactive and digital media companies around Fusionopolis and Mediapolis at One North, Mr. Lee added that this is to promote engagement, collaborations and to enhance creativity and innovation between them.

Asipiring artists can also look forward to be trained in the field of interactive and digital media as local institutions partner multinational companies like Lucasfilm to develop young talents — as seen in the introducton of Lucasfilm’s Jedi Masters progamme with over 100 Singaporeans under it.

Lucasfilm will share the same complex with the likes of other media companies like Walt Disney and ESPN Asia Pacific.
