As with all electric-powered personal transportation devices (e-scooters, hoverboards, e-unicycles, etc), more regulations are being enforced upon them to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) aren’t taking any chances with these newfangled devices and are progressively imposing stricter penalties and measures. Come Feb 1, electric bicycles will need to comply to new requirements in accordance to the European Standard EN15194 in order to to be approved. Once the power-assisted bike (PAB) is given the thumbs up, it will be sealed with LTA’s new orange seal.

“Folks looking to buy PABs should look out for the new orange seal which will be affixed to PABs that meet the revised technical requirements,” noted LTA. “PABs that have been approved under the current requirements and affixed with a blue seal will still be allowed for use on public roads.”
