LTA fines three taxi companies for failure to meet industry standards

Three local taxi companies have been slapped with massive fines by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) for not keeping up with acceptable standards. And yet taxi companies are unhappy about the existence of alternative transport services like Uber.

Channel NewsAsia reports that the Land Transport Authority has identified and penalised Prime, SMRT and Premier for not meeting taxi availability standards.

Prime taxis got the heaviest brunt of the fines with $108.990.75 for not meeting the second-year standard for the percentage of taxis on the roads during peak periods from January to July this year. Prime also failed to hit LTA’s benchmark for the percentage of taxis with minimum daily mileage of 250km from January to August.

SMRT also failed for not meeting the minimum daily mileage in February and was fined $21,396.16. Premier got off with $12,027.40 for failing to achieve the standards in August.
