LTA enforcement officer goes beyond the call of duty and rescues stranded cat from tree

Major props to this bro who thought nothing of saving a terrified kitty after it got itself in a pickle climbing up a tree in Little India. Not as intense as SPCA’s heart-stopping rescue of a kitten from a 12th storey HDB ledge, but heart-warming nonetheless.

According to a passerby who saw the whole thing last Wednesday, a cat was stuck on a small tree for some time. A hero arrived in the form of a Land Transport Authority (LTA) officer of the Active Mobility Enforcement team — the people who are cracking down on errant e-scooter and e-bike users — who mobilised (hur hur) a prompt rescue operation.

The community came together to help the LTA officer; a ladder was borrowed from a provision store nearby and two other guys helped to hold it stable during the rescue.

As anyone who has tried coaxing cats down from trees would know, it’s pretty hard to calm them down. But the LTA officer (and secret cat whisperer) managed to soothe the frightened feline and scoop the cat up in his arms.

“I was touched by how patient and calm he was towards the stressed cat, and I think it’s commendable that he went above and beyond his job scope to rescue an animal that needed his assistance!” said the witness, who sent the footage to Cat Welfare Society

Bonus cuteness: The rescued cat had a fellow feline friend waiting for it nearby, and they presumably touched noses and sniffed each other’s butts. Gah!

On the Cat Welfare Society Facebook page, someone has since identified the mystery hero as Nursubhi Bin Achis. Walking the talk, the dude wants to change public perception of LTA officers being cold-hearted robots. What a righteous dude.
