Longtime creative media school SAE Institute to cease Singapore operations in 2016

Creative arts school SAE Institute has been slogging it for years to ensure the survival of their Singapore campus, but come October 2016, they’re throwing in the towel.

The news comes as a shock to young creative aspirants who’ve come to see SAE as a viable option to study and be certified in audio engineering, film production, graphic design and other creative pursuits.

According to SAE however, the stifling environment here has pushed them to cease its Singapore operations next year.

“Rising costs and declining demand for creative media education across Singapore, coupled with increased competition, has meant that we cannot continue to deliver world-class teaching and learning programs in the long term,” they wrote in a sombre press release.

The end of this month will see SAE Singapore kicking into their final intake of diploma and degree students, who’ll be the last batch to graduate by October next year. “Most importantly, all current students will have sufficient time to complete the courses in which they enrolled – and to graduate with a world-class qualification from SAE,” they wrote.

In the past 25 years of their presence, SAE has educated over 3,000 students in Singapore and claims to have established themselves as a “pioneer in creative media education in Asia”. The institute’s pretty popular in other countries such as Australia and the UK, but Singaporeans just haven’t been biting lately.
