Local singer Nathan Hartono wows judges on TV show Sing! China, picks Jay Chou as mentor

Even if you’ve never heard of local singer-songwriter Nathan Hartono, you would’ve noticed the buzz around him this weekend. Homeboy did Singapore proud by impressing all four judges on his blind audition for the fifth season of TV show Sing! China (it’s a reality singing competition formerly known as The Voice of China).

In his first-ever performance in China, 25-year-old Hartono belted out bilingual R&B song ‘You Mei You (Have You Ever)’ by Taiwanese singer Wei Li An. So extraordinary was he that everyone on the judging panel – Jay Chou, Harlem Yu, Na Ying and Wang Feng – turned around to indicate their appreciation of his talent. They heaped praises on him after he crooned his last note, and hilariously tried to outdo one another in their effort to win him over to their team.

In return, Hartono complimented each one of them as teachers – Chou for his songwriting skills, Na Ying and Wang Feng for their singing pizzazz and Harlem Yu for his performance style. Finally, he chose Chou as his mentor and got a fist bump and hug in return.

Watch the video below and try not to fall head over heels in love with him his voice.

Five more finalists from the China Super Vocal Singapore audition have made it to Shanghai for their closed-door audition, among them Singapore Idol season one finalist Olinda Cho.

And if you can’t wait till the next episode starring Hartono airs, here’s his new music video for you to swoon over.
