In the midst of all the Grab-Uber chaos the past couple days, a new challenger in Singapore has quietly emerged out of the ashes. Local carpooling app Ryde, which debuted in 2014 and partnered up with ComfortDelGro for a taxi booking service just last year, announced today that it soon launch RydeX, its new private-hire car platform.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the homegrown app has already started welcoming new driver sign-ups to expand its current combined fleet of more than 55,000 private cars and taxis that cater to about 300,000 passengers daily.
“Over the past two years, we have been growing our base of both users and drivers, and RydeX will provide Singaporeans an effective alternative to booking a private-hire car,” noted Terence Zou, Ryde Technologies’ founder and CEO.
“We hope to provide commuters a cheaper alternative to get around and drivers a way to make a decent living. Ultimately, our mission is to make a positive social impact in people’s lives,” he added.
The on-demand ride-hailing service also aims to be competitive — a much-needed strategy in the current market — with drivers’ commission rates dropped to 10 percent, so that savings can be passed down to passengers in the form of lower fares and drivers can receive higher earnings.
Here’s hoping it all works out in the favor of commuters.
