Starhub’s TV commercial for LionsXII, the team representing Singapore for the Malaysia FA Cup and Malaysian Super League, was released yesterday (Jan. 15).
The video is only one-minute-long, but packs a punch, playing tribute to the golden boy of Singapore football Fandi Ahmad, now head coach of the young LionsXII team.
The TVC, which features Fandi, the new LionsXII lineup and local rapper Kevin Lester (aka Lion City Boy) with his song “PYCO (Put Your City On)”, comes mere days before the starting home games on Jan. 21 (Malaysia FA Cup against KL DRB HICOM) and Jan. 25 (Malaysian Super League against Selangor).
In a Facebook post, Kevin wrote, “When I was younger, I imagined myself playing football in his (Fandi Ahmad) boots, dribbling around the living room gathering passes from pretend Sundrams and Malek Awabs. Today the LionsXII released their latest TVC. It reads ‘Kevin Lester feat Fandi Ahmad’. It was a long time in the making but I’m so proud of this TVC.”
