Lifts at 40-storey HDB block in Dover Crescent conk out after power outage

Are HDB lifts going on strike or something these days? Days after all the elevators of a 33-storey block in Woodlands broke down, another block (this time in Dover Crescent) also faced some lift woes.

To be fair, it wasn’t as if there was something faulty with the mechanisms. For an hour, all four lifts at Block 28B Dover Crescent were out of order earlier this afternoon due to a power outage. It would have been a good time to get some cardio in if not for the fact that the block goes 40-storey high.

The outage hit the block at about 12.35pm according to a resident speaking to Channel NewsAsia. Jess Thia tried her luck climbing up the stairs — but as it turns out, it’s really, really hard.

Much like the block in Woodlands that faced the same issue last Sunday, residents pointed out that many residents in that Dover block comprises of elderly folks. Its a surprising to note too that some residents revealed that elevator antics at their block are common — about once a month, a lift would break down. It should be pretty concerning to the town council too, considering that the block is 40-freakin’-storeys high.

Another serious incident concerning malfunctioning lifts transpired early this month too. A 59-year-old woman sustained a spinal fracture after the elevator she was in sped up and down before braking abruptly. Poor lady had to wait for half an hour before rescue came.
