Life imprisonment for schizophrenic man who stabbed his mum and tried to decapitate her

Sujay Solomon Sutherson had been a pretty normal individual until he was in his 20s, when the first signs of his mental illness surfaced.

The 34-year-old was later diagnosed with paranoia schizophrenia. Though his family knew how it would be difficult for him to live with the condition, none of them expected it to reach a horrifying apex in 2012, when he brutally murdered his own mother in their flat.

In a fit of madness, Sujay stabbed his mother with two knives and tried to decapitate her with a third one. He tried and failed to burn his mother’s body to get rid of the evidence, before shoving her into a suitcase and hiding it under his bed.

His uncle, Daniel Jesudasan was the one who uncovered his sister’s body — he spotted a pair of legs sticking out from the suitcase under Sujay’s bed.

Three years on since the incident, the mentally deranged man has since been sentenced to life in prison, The New Paper reports. A caning sentence was not handed down due to Sujay’s medical condition.

Sujay’s siblings have also seem to have moved on from the gruesome incident — they’ve renovated their mother’s flat and are still residing in it. Only Daniel attended the court proceedings, with his nephew exchanging a look before being taken away.
