Expect an increase in police presence and bag checks this month, as crowds descend upon places like shopping malls, local attractions and big events. If you’re heading to year-end parties such as the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown — St Andrew’s Road and Connaught Drive will be closed off for the festivities — you’ll be seeing a lot of security officers patrolling the area. Front-line staff have also been trained to pick out unusual activities and react in an appropriate manner.
Popular places such as the Esplanade and Resorts World Sentosa will be stepping up security patrols to monitor the crowds for suspicious activities as well. This follows reports that terror threats are considerably greater this festive season. Security firms have been seeing a rise in clients requesting for increased security patrols, and guards have to undergo refresher training sessions to be learn about counter-terrorism measures.
Stay safe, people.
