Less Singaporeans visiting the casinos

An annual report released on Sept. 25 by the Casino Regulatory Authority of Singapore (CRA) shows the daily average of Singaporeans and Permanent Residents visiting the two local casinos at Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa, has decreased from 20,000 to 17,000 in the last three years.

According to CRA’s chairman Richard Magnus, this is likely due to the effectiveness of the government’s safeguards against addiction to gambling. The casinos’ novelty may also have worn off for many.

Magnus also revealed that only 7.7 per cent of the local adult population visited the casino more than once during this same period. The vast majority of the remaining 92.3 per cent, however, have never step foot into either casino.
