’Twas much ado about nothing when a lady got so triggered at the sight of a sealed packet of frozen pork in the halal frozen food section that she had to post about it on Facebook (IN ALL CAPS, EVEN). Her post called for fellow Muslims to be aware of the wicked, conniving NTUC Fairprice supermarket in Tampines that dared to trick the innocent into buying pork belly as part of some conspiracy against Muslims.
Well, those weren’t her exact words really — but it was what she was implying.
Unfortunately for her, the puny attempt to shame the supermarket backfired for obvious reasons.
- There was no harm done — it’s just a vacuum-sealed pack of meat.
- A shopper might have accidentally left it there after deciding not to buy it, unaware that the section is for halal products only.
- Alternatively, some asshole left it there as a lame joke. Still, no harm done — it’s not like someone placed raw pork belly strips on top of all the halal food.
- People aren’t dumb enough to purchase it by accident. It clearly says right there on the label that it’s pork.
- Instead of causing unnecessary drama on Facebook, she could’ve just picked up the packet and put it somewhere appropriate. If she was too afraid to pick it up (because haram), she could’ve just asked a supermarket staff to help return it to its original location.
But don’t just take our word for it — take that of the many folks who also believed that she overreacted.
Michael says
why can’t you just tell the staff to remove it?
since the supermarket is not halal certified then do go there to shop.
