A part-time hostess at Club One KTV Boutique was left blinded after her eyeball was popped out during a brawl with a colleague who kicked her in the face with her 14.5 centimeter stiletto heels, a Singapore courtroom heard yesterday.
It was in the wee hours of the morning on Oct. 8, 2015, that 30-year-old Nur Lena Rahmat and 28-year-old Siti Zahara Afifi Abdul Karim got into an argument at their workplace on Jalan Sultan road.
According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Joshua Rene Jeyaraj, the disagreement at 3:20am escalated into a physical skirmish, and both women fell to the ground.
Even though one of the two witnesses at the club attempted to intervene, Siti Zahara continued kicking in the direction of Nur Lena. The heel hit the victim’s eyelid twice before eventually piercing her eye, popping the eyeball out, reported The Straits Times.
Nur Lena, who could be heard shouting “I cannot see, I cannot see,” was then brought to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where she had her left eye removed and an orbital implant done.
The hospital discharged her on Oct. 16, but the damage was done. In addition to losing her left eye, she was found to have right-eye temporal hemianopia, which means her sight is limited to the nasal part of her visual field.
Siti Zahara was convicted yesterday of causing grievous hurt to Nur Lena due to a rash act that endangered the personal safety of others.
According to ST, it was revealed in court that both women had a tense working relationship prior to the incident, which actually revolved around a trivial matter — a set of braces for Siti Zahara’s younger sister.
Apparently, after Siti Zahara’s sister and Nur Lena’s friend had ended their relationship, the man offered to continue paying for the braces. Nur Lena reportedly persuaded him not to, and Siti Zahara argued with her about her alleged interference in the matter.
District Judge Mathew Joseph will hear a mitigation plea by Siti Zahara’s lawyer and the prosecution’s submissions on the sentence on Oct. 31.
The maximum penalty for the offence is a four-year jail term and a $10,000 fine.
