Alleged Khoo Teck Puat Hospital shooter Muhammad Iskandar Sa’at was slapped with two new charges yesterday – one of voluntarily causing hurt and another of escaping police custody.
This is in addition to the death penalty he is facing for the unlawful discharge of firearms with the intent to cause physical harm to Staff Sergeant Mohammad Sadli Razali on June 20. In the same day of the shooting incident, he allegedly hit Sgt Sadli several times with a T-baton and a metal pole used for securing an IV drip, TODAY reports. This offence carries a maximum punishment of a seven-year jail term, a fine and caning. His attempt to escape from police custody after being arrested for stealing a lorry means he faces a jail term of up to 15 years.
The prosecution has asked for the accused to be remanded for three weeks at Changi Prison Complex Medical Center to undergo psychiatric assessment, and the accused will appear in court again on July 20.
