Kudos to the Bugis Junction cleaner who returned a valuable bag full of jewellery to its rightful owner. The lost item contained gold jewellery and a diamond ring worth about $20,000, as well as a wallet — all of which belonged to 36-year-old businessman Xie.
The white bag was chanced upon by 67-year-old Yip at the Bugis mall toilet last Thursday (May 18), which he kept and passed it on to his manager later. But when Yip spotted Xie worriedly searching the toilet, he checked that Xie was the owner of the bag before returning it to him.
According to Xie, the jewellery was in his possession for safekeeping as a favor to a friend. He had placed the items in his bag to return them to said friend later that day, but carelessly forgot them in the first floor toilet when he headed for a meeting. Luckily, the bag was picked up by Yip (and his good intentions). The next day, Xie returned to Bugis Junction to thank Yip with a reward.
If you think this sort of thing rarely happens, think again. Yip told Shin Min Daily News that that he discovers a missing item in the toilet every two to three months, and he always hands it in to the management. Good man.
