After Joseph Schooling beat Michael Phelps in the 100m butterfly heats, clocking in a time of 51.41s, he went on to create history. He’s the first male Singaporean athlete to ever qualify for an Olympic swimming final, and we’re just so damn proud.
In his 100m butterfly semi-final, the national swimmer even clocked a personal best time of 50.83s, putting him in first place overall, with the fastest time in the event this year. The rest in the top five are László Cseh (50.86s), Michael Phelps (51.00s), Chad Le Clos (51.09s), and Tom Shields (51.20s).
Did we mention just how proud we are?
The 100m butterfly final will take place tomorrow morning, around 9.12am Singapore time. We’re pretty sure the whole nation will be watching and rooting for Schooling.
