It seems us Singaporeans are an unhappy bunch – at least in the office. According to the Job Happiness Index 2017 conducted by JobStreet.com, 45 percent of Singaporeans weren’t happy at work.
The top three causes of dissatisfaction among Singaporean employees were issues with management, stagnating career development, and a lack of training opportunities.
On the flip side, the 55 percent who indicated they were neutral or happy at work identified office location as the most important factor, followed by having a team of good colleagues and working for a company with a stellar reputation. Other factors included transport subsidies, workplace flexibility, salary increment, and additional job perks.
The results also found that employees in larger companies tended to be happier, perhaps due to the fact that such firms have multiple departments for workers to explore other job scopes, as well as the resources to send employees for training or accreditation courses.
The online survey – which polled about 700 participants in Singapore from July to August last year – saw executive-level employees and jobseekers in industries like manufacturing and production, banking and finance, and civil service and hospitality making up the majority of respondents. Its aim was to offer insights for employers to recruit and retain talent.
Now who’s looking for a change of environment this year?
