In the biggest and most high-profile signing that ever happened in the history of Singapore football, former English Premier League star Jermaine Pennant sealed the deal with Tampines Rovers this morning.
The 33-year-old Englishman who once roamed the pitch under Arsenal and Liverpool will now be donning the #9 jersey for the Rovers for the upcoming season, Channel NewsAsia reports.

Pennant inked the contract in the signing ceremony this morning, which will see him drawing a monthly salary of around $45,000 — which could rise to nearly $60,000 with performance bonuses. Club sponsors Komoco Motors and Hyundai have stepped up and help contribute to Pennant’s relatively colossal salary. Even so, it’s a 70 percent pay cut from his previous gig at Wigan Athletic.
To sweeten the deal, he was even gifted with a Veloster Turbo to drive around in Singapore, courtesy of Hyundai Singapore. Talk about superstar perks, yeah? We’ll see if all the fuss is worth his salt in time to come.
