Following the ceiling collapse at the ground level of the Jurong shopping centre on Thursday morning, Jem has announced that it will not be open to the public until all safety checks and rectification works are completed.
The mall made the announcement on Sept. 19 via its Facebook page, revealing repair works have already begun on “water-damaged lifts and escalators”.
According to AsiaOne, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) had inspected the site after the incident and had cited a water pipe leak as the cause of the ceiling collapse. The BCA also said that “the structural integrity of the building is not affected”.
