After much anticipation, shopping mall Jem will reopen on Wednesday (Oct. 2), according to an update on its Facebook page.
The news comes almost two weeks after the mall’s temporary closure for rectification works following the collapse of part of a ceiling on the first floor, the result of a burst water pipe.
According to earlier reports, the incident left three women injured and affected more than 240 tenants.
Lend Lease, the manager of the complex, said: “We are pleased to be welcoming you to shop and dine at Jem from Wednesday,” and also thanked the public for their patience and support.
Within an hour of the announcement, its Facebook page garnered more than 190 ‘Likes’, with some netizens expressing their relief.
One of them, Nick Tan, said: “Well done for the reopening!”
Another user called Eric Cheng stated: “Let’s hope nothing (similar) happens to the mall again.”
Jem is one of the largest suburban malls in Singapore, and one of three serving residents living in Jurong East.
