Jay Chou fans are pissed (again) for another substandard concert experience at Singapore Sports Hub

You’d think they learned from all the passionate backlash two years ago, but nah — Singapore Sports Hub is under fire once again by Jay Chou fans, who had yet another shoddy experience at the Taiwanese pop-star’s concert.

At Jay Chou’s 2014 gig, fans were mad pissed over the conditions of the multi-million performance venue/stadium. Leaky roofs, substandard sound, poor seating arrangement — who wouldn’t be upset over paying so much to see their idol falter beyond his control?

The management of Singapore Sports Hub heard the complaints and promised to contact the organisers to make improvements in the future.

Alas, none were seen when Jay Chou returned for another show at the very same venue last Saturday. Almost seeming like they were intentionally trying to piss off the audience, organisers Multimedia Entertainment presented “unacceptable standards” at the concert. So much so that there’s a petition signed by over 2,000 concert-goers demanding refunds.

They took issue with the muffled sound, overwhelming bass, drowning reverb and generally the alleged absence of improvements made since the problematic 2014 show.

“Obviously feedback was given but fallen on deaf ears. We paid for it, expecting quality but it was way below quality. Even 7th month getai has better standards,” says Goh Ying Sheng, who launched the petition.

Speaking to Channel NewsAsia however, Multimedia Entertainment maintained that many had a “positive stadium concert experience”, judging from the feedback they received.

Sound engineers had been engaged to provide advice on the sound system with improved quality of speakers and changing their placement locations to “minimise obstruction of view”.

Other than the problematic sound, some fans also voiced out poor ventilation and crowd control issues during the over 40,000-strong concert.
