For those of you who aren’t into Japanese anime, there’s a television series called A Place Further Than The Universe (Sora yori mo Tooi Basho) that just started airing in Japan in January this year. But what’s so special about it, you ask? Well, a recent episode on Feb. 6 featured the four lead characters — who are en route to Antarctica — on a two-day layover in Singapore.

And boy, was it a beautifully done feature of our garden city. The level of detail on the artwork was superb, with impressive depictions of iconic landmarks such as Changi Airport, Ion Orchard, Marina Bay Sands, The Merlion, The Esplanade, Singapore Flyer, and Maxwell Food Centre.

Props to the artists with the mad skills.

Screengrabs of the anime made their rounds online, thanks to a viral Facebook post pointing out the ridiculously accurate representation of Singapore, and several netizens commented that the true to life portrayal could be done by tracings of photo composite backgrounds. But still. The amount of research put in by Madhouse — the Japanese studio behind the series — is admirable.

Just scroll through some of the images below.
