With two case of brutally killed (allegedly) cats popping up in Yishun yesterday, this case in Siao Lang Town shouldn’t even be surprising. Still, pretty horrific though — especially when it involves a man tossing corrosive liquid on his own son’s face.
53-year-old Peh Boon Keng has just been sentenced to seven months in jail yesterday for causing hurt to his son by way of a solution containing hydrochloric acid, The Straits Times reports.
Fortunately, the 20-year-old has since recovered from his injuries with no permanent scars.
The incident took place on Aug 21 last year when the estranged father had gone to the family’s home in Yishun Ring Road to discuss some matters with his former wife.
Being a part-time cleaner at Khatib Camp at the time, he brought a cleaning solution that he took from his workplace and poured it into a plastic cup. He took the cup to his son’s room and splashed the corrosive substance onto the young man’s face, causing burns around his eye and lips.
Keng claimed that his son had been moving towards him, which he interpreted as an attack. The prosecution refuted the claim, stating that the son was “in no way aggressive”.
The immediate aftermath of the acidic attack was, as one imagines, frightening. The victim’s mother and sister found him covering his face. Drooling uncontrollably, the victim’s face and neck had turned red as well.
A strong burning smell was produced from the attack — strong enough to make breathing difficult in the room.
They helped the young man wash his face and took him to the hospital, where he was discharged two days later.
Yishun’s spate of disturbing episodes carry on.
