Of all the places to commit sin, this dude just had to carry out his perverted misdeeds in a church he grew up in.
Former church employee Kenneth Yeo Jia Chuan has since been sentenced to 12 months in jail and fined $2,000 for installing cameras in his church’s public toilets and trying to sell the obscene clips online. Channel NewsAsia reports that he pleaded guilty to eight counts of insulting the modesty of a woman, one count of attempting to sell obscene videos and one count of possessing obscene films. 58 more charges were considered during sentencing.
Yeo had planted two pinhole cameras underneath the sink and the air freshener of the public toilet, capturing “clear and unobstructed” videos of multiple women in the loo. At the time of the offences, he was not employed by the Bukit Timah church, but made sure to plant the cameras on Sundays, when the church would be crowded.
It was only after one of his victims was alerted to a video of her using the toilet that his sins were found out. The 22-year-old victim saw the video online, and provided the links to the police.
Following his arrest in 2012, Yeo admitted to filming at least 10 victims between May and June 2011, and even tried to sell the videos for up to $70 online. Apparently, he had done so due to financial difficulties and owed debtors about $8,000. He even had a ready buyer, but was arrested before he could complete the transaction.
In court, it was revealed that Yeo had been diagnosed with paraphilia — having a strong urge to give in to his fetish for peeping or looking at voyeuristic images of women in the toilet.
Prior to his crimes, he had worked for the same church as a technician for two years from 2008 to 2010. He had even spent his formative years in the church, as his mother had brought him there from a young age.
