Bruv needs to calm down. In a fit of football hooliganism, Muhammad Maziz Abdul Rahman went ahead and griveously beat up a referee who sent him off the pitch with a red card.
The 29-year-old has since received a 10-month prison sentence and an order to pay $2,000 in compensation to the victim, who sustained serious injuries, The Straits Times reported.
It was during an inter-departmental match held for employees of the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) on Dec 4 last year that the altercation transpired. 35-year-old Mohd Asadullah was tasked to be the referee for the match at the PSA Club in Telok Blangah, but soon found out that he shouldn’t have taken the assignment after all.
Maziz started displayinh his aggro behaviour in the first half of the match, when he shouted “stupid or what” in Malay at the referee when he got a yellow card.
In the second half, Maziz got his second yellow card for dissent, prompting a red card. Maziz was ordered to leave the pitch after he was heard calling the referee stupid — to which the younger man responded by running to Asadullah and stepping on his foot.
Maziz was pushed away, but he continued slagging off the referee, threatening to beat him up outside and saying that he’d beaten up other referees before. Again, Asadullah told the ruffian to leave the pitch.
Maziz responded by lunging at Asadullah, using his cleats to kick the latter in the thigh before punching him in the face, causing a nosebleed. They were then separated by other players.
Unrepentant, Maziz then kicked Asadullah once again, this time on the head as he was lying on the pitch.
To the surprise of no one, Maziz lost his job from the incident. Apparently, he also lost his fiancee due to the incident.
In court, the judge noted that Maziz’s “disproportionate” attack involved the victim’s vulnerable parts, displaying his “hooligan tendency”. He could have gotten the maximum of 10 years in jail as well as a fine or caning for causing grievous hurt.
