Unable to hold down a permanent job, a 29-year-old woman resorted to going down the dark road of selling compromising videos of others on seedy online forum Sammyboy.
Heng Li Ying even offered package deals such as offering complimentary bonus videos on top of the ones being purchased from her.
The Straits Times reports that the woman has since been sentenced to 30 weeks in jail after admitting to intruding the privacy of three women at Suntec City Mall’s True Fitness outlet.
Back in April 2014, Heng used her phone to record videos of the victims while they were in various states of undress. The clips were sold for personal profit on Sammyboy, an infamous forum where users post and exchange sexually explicit material.
To sell her footages, she created an account on the adult forum and set up a discussion thread called “Changing room peektures”, where she would advertise and sell her footages.
At least two parties bought a 53-second video featuring a Caucasian woman; at least two more bought a 106-second video that featured a middle-aged female who was drying her body; and at least two more users bought a 108-second video of a woman who had just left the shower.
They were sold at either 10 or 20 cents per second of footage. Heng’s illicit enterprise raked in at least $1,540 from the sale of the videos to at least 22 account holders on the forum.
The transaction process involved the users transferring funds to her bank account before she sent them links to download the videos.
The circulation of compromising videos online caused a stir among True Fitness customers, and the gym’s management was alerted. They made a police report on April 10 in 2014.
In court, Heng’s lawyer said that she was truly remorseful and expressed regret for the offences — offences that was carried out due to her employment difficulties and family commitments. She turned to criminal activity after being unable to hold down a permanent job for seven years.
