An Indonesian maid working here has been the centre of outrage ever since a video clip of her kicking her employer’s one-year-old daughter went viral online.
Now, 28-year-old Khaerun Nisa Selfitriya has received her just desserts after she was sentenced to seven months in jail for her offences against the employer’s young daughter and son, Channel NewsAsia reports.
Both CCTV footages of her mistreatment of the children were put up online. The CCTV camera itself was installed in the house after the father noticed scratch marks on his daughter’s arm in May last year.
Khaerun’s first charge was for kicking the one-year-old daughter on her left thigh, causing the toddler to fall to the side and hit her head on the floor. Prior to the kick, the child had started crying and vomiting when the maid was feeding her.
The second charge was for ill-treating the girl’s then eight-month-old younger brother. Khaerun was caught on camera slapping his back with her hand multiple times after he cried while being fed.

In court, it was revealed that the maid had felt paranoid, depressed and afraid since starting work for her employers, and that she also was not allowed any off days, among other reasons.
She received four-month and three-month jail sentences that will be served concurrently, and has been backdated to Oct 16 last year when she was first detained.
