Istana grounds open to public on second day of Chinese New Year

The regal grounds of the Istana will be open to the public this Friday on the second day of the Lunar New Year from 8.30am to 6pm, and all are welcome.

As part of the Chinese New Year celebrations, visitors to the Istana open house can be entertained by special performances including lion dance, acrobatics, and other dance performances by the likes of Nanyang Girls’ School Lion Dance Troupe, Xinjiang Production and more.

There’ll also be a petting zoo of sorts, where the Singapore Bird Park will be displaying their macaws and parrots while Hay Dairies will be putting their farm goats on show.

Volunteers from the National Heritage Board will also be on hand for a guided tour of the Istana main building, where visitors can view selected function rooms and the display of gifts presented to the President and the Prime Minister by foreign dignitaries.

Entry to the Istana grounds remain free for Singaporeans and Singapore permanent residents, while all other visitors are required to pay an entrance fee of $1 per person — all of which will be donated to charity. More details on the programme schedule available on the Istana’s official website.
