Looks like a very merry Christmas for Painem Inem Minuk, a domestic helper hailing from Indonesia who just passed the one year mark working for a family residing in Singapore. Her employers went overseas for their holiday yesterday, leaving her behind to take care of their house and a generous bonus to boot.

Sharing her joy with fellow migrant domestic workers on the on the FDW in Singapore Facebook group, Painem recounted how she was pleasantly surprised with getting her year-end bonus (over SGD1,000) on top of some Byron Bay coffee and a Starbucks card, given that she’s a self-professed coffee nut. Her employers even left her a nice Christmas card, thanking her profusely for her services over the past year.

While Painem received well wishes from fellow domestic workers, some pointed out how lucky she was to receive the bounty after just a year of working with the family. Because, you know, Singaporeans aren’t exactly known for being magnanimous with domestic helpers under their employment.
