The Public Service Division (PSD) announced on Nov. 21 that both civil servants and lower-wage officers can look forward to receiving an increase in their pay through the Annual Variable Component (AVC) by the end of the year.
Civil servants will get a 10 percent increase together with a non-pensionable allowance (NPAA) of one-month while lower-wage officers will get at least SGD1600.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) forecasted an increase in Singapore’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth from 3.5 percent to 4 percent in 2013.
With the economic improvement and the government’s commitment to help lower-wage workers, the bonuses will be bigger compared to 2012 — where it was five percent lower, with 30 percent of the month’s income paid out in the middle of the year and 75 percent of the month’s income in December.
