God bless the child that’s got his own.
Singapore will have two playgrounds catering to children with disabilities — “inclusive playgrounds” — by the end of 2015.
The first one, located in Sembawang Park’s Canberra Park, has already been open for a month and was part of a $2.2-million upgrade that took a year to complete.
Most of the equipment were made by Playworld Systems which has built similar playgrounds in the United States.
A second playground, made available at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park by August, “will have a wheelchair-friendly merry-go-round, a wheelchair swing, as well as slide that provides additional tactile stimulations using rollers,” reports Benson Ang in The Straits Times.
In addition, the 600 sq m playground in Canberra Park has see-saws designed to fit wheelchairs and ramps for the elderly to play along with their grandchildren.
