Seems like Mother Nature’s way of compensating for all the hot days the past week was to drench the city center in torrential rain yesterday afternoon — of course, the downpour was heavy enough to cause flash floods.

This time, floods swept over the western and central parts of Singapore — at least the eastern end of the island was spared the misery it experienced earlier this month. Phew!

According to alerts by the Public Utilities Board (PUB), flash floods hit Jalan Boon Lay and Craig Road around 5:20pm, both of which were noted to be flooding hotspots. Along Tanjong Pagar Road, the water was said to be ankle-deep.

Murky milk tea-hued water was also spotted accumulating along Outram Road, in front of the Tan Boon Liat Building. PUB noted that this could be due to the ongoing works at its drainage construction spot in the area.

“Singapore is still experiencing the Northeast Monsoon season, which is expected to continue till March,” stated PUB. “We urge the public to exercise caution and avoid stepping into or driving into flooded areas.”
