Extremely impressed by the level of service from Singapore Airlines (SIA), one passenger penned a lengthy Facebook post — that quickly went viral — describing his entire experience on board a flight he took three months ago.
Singing praises about Foo Wen Huee, the chief steward of flight SQ860 from Singapore to Hong Kong, Gary Leung claimed that the man went “way above and beyond” to help him with “a small accident”, displaying the “extremely high level of service that Singapore Airlines is famous for.”
The incident in question was Leung’s misplaced SIM card, which fell into the tiny gap between the storage compartment and the armrest side of his business class seat as he was attempting to switch SIM cards in his phone.
First, he used an in-flight magazine and a safety procedure card to nudge it out, then he tried his charging cable and ear phones instead, but nothing worked. So he asked a stewardess for help.
That’s when Foo entered the situation. Armed with a DIY tool made from two ice prongs straightened and taped together, the “100% awesome” steward spent many minutes resolutely determined to retrieve Leung’s SIM card — and in full uniform, too.
Even when they were about to land, Foo didn’t give up. He contacted the ground staff for help and updated Leung with photos of engineers dismantling parts of the seats to locate his SIM card after Leung disembarked the plane.
Although the card was never found, Leung still waxed lyrical about Foo’s “unnecessarily — almost ridiculously — high level of professionalism, service, and dedication.” The loyal SIA flyer ended his post thanking Foo and his colleagues for going “out of their way every day to make our travels safe, smooth, and memorable.”
Naturally, SIA responded to Leung’s post within the hour.
And of course, the cynics flooded in with their “economy vs business class” comments.
But SIA sure had its fair share of committed fans as well.
