Here’s a bit of juicy (and violent) news: A 60-year-old man was arrested for illegal hawking and the horrible abuse he dealt upon not one, but three NEA officers along Arumugam Road.

According to TODAY, while the suspect was selling fruits without a licence, he was approached by three NEA enforcement officers on Monday at about 3:30pm. After his attempt to flee was shut down, the suspect refused to go down without a fight — he landed a punch and a head-butt on an officer. The second officer was spat on, and the third officer had one of his hands injured when the suspect slammed his vehicle door shut.

Throughout the fracas and subsequent arrest, the suspect hurled abusive language at the officers. (That is one feisty sexagenarian — we’re not sure we would have that kind of explosive energy when we’re in our 60s.)

The suspect will be charged in court on Wednesday for using criminal force against a public servant. The man faces up to four years in jail and/or a fine, in addition to the illegal hawking offence charge, which has not been meted out yet.
