A syndicate that’s been promoting the sale of unauthorised cable TV set-top boxes has been busted.
For months, local cable TV operator StarHub had been tracking the movements of the syndicate, resulting in a raid earlier this week uncovering hundreds of pirated set-top boxes.
In early September, rival operator SingTel had urged StarHub to upgrade to a more secure system as the illegal set-top boxes allowed non-subscribers to watch the Barclays Premier League games, which are under the newly-established cross-carriage rules.
In response, StarHub has announced that it is now migrating pay TV customers to a new encryption standard, which cannot be unscrambled by the current illegal boxes being distributed.
