This human library in Singapore isn’t as weird as it sounds — it’s actually kinda cool

Don’t worry, the Human Library hasn’t got anything to do with horror films, human trafficking or anything of that sort. Hailing from Denmark, the concept has since spread to places like Poland, New Zealand and now Singapore, which will host the local edition this month.

It’s basically a library concept, but instead of borrowing books, you borrow real people. These human ‘books’ come from diverse backgrounds and walks of life, and are available to loan for conversations. They’re all pretty cool with sharing their life stories and personal experiences, and you in turn, as the reader, are free to ask questions.

For this inaugural event, a maximum of three ‘books’ can be borrowed, and the catalogue consists of people like an MMA fighter, a migrant worker, a person suffering from bipolar disorder, and a refugee advocate. We’re sure they’ve all got interesting insights and fascinating tales to regale you with.

If you missed out on your chance to participate (registration is now full), keep tabs on the site for the next round. Plans are already in the pipeline for a bigger edition early next year.

Human Library SG is on Oct 30 at The Red Box, 113 Somerset Rd. Registration is now closed, but there are plans for a bigger event early next year. Visit Human Library Singapore’s Facebook page for updates.
