Chinese tech manufacturers Huawei may not be considered among the top echelons alongside the likes of Samsung, Google, and Apple, but their new line of flagship phones might just change that. After all, the Huawei P20 Pro is the first smartphone in the world to go over the top with not one, not two, but three camera lenses. And Singapore will be one of the first few countries to launch it.

The smartphone with the highest DxOMark Mobile rating right now — meaning they have the best smartphone camera quality ever — will be available for purchase on our shores this Saturday. Both the Huawei P20 Pro and the lower-end Huawei P20 (with only two camera lenses and smaller screens) are available for online pre-orders starting today.

“We are committed to delivering the best smartphone experience to our Singapore customers which is why they will be amongst the first few in the world to be able to purchase and experience the all-new Huawei P20 Series smartphones”, said Cheng Jiangfei, Managing Director, Singapore Huawei Consumer Business Group.

It may seem like overkill, but the triple Leica camera set-up does make the Huawei P20 Pro the best full-fledged camera that also doubles as a communications device. The main camera sensor has a total pixel count of 40 megapixels; its secondary camera has a monochrome sensor; and its tele-camera offers optical image stabilization for really sharp zoomed-in stills. That, plus advanced AI capabilities like scene and object recognition to assist with framing and focus. All of which results in outstanding low-light performance and dynamic range with low noise levels. We won’t get into the meat of its technicalities, but here’s why DxOMark hails the P20 Pro as the “the best all-around mobile device for imaging that money can currently buy”.

Speaking of money, the P20 Pro will retail for $1,148 for its black, midnight blue and (much-lauded) twilight versions, and they all arrive packed with 128GB internal memory and 6GB of RAM. Their regular P20 series retails for much cheaper at $898, with one less camera lens, 128GB of internal memory and 4GB of RAM. Major telcos M1, Singtel, and Starhub will be offering the phones, while those wanting to purchase them without a line can head to all major consumer electronic stores, Huawei concept stores or online via Lazada.
