Despite the constant reminders in airports telling travellers not to leave their belongings behind, there will always be forgetful passengers — even though some bags are worth much more than others. Take this case of the Louis Vuitton pouch, for example. Stuffed with more than $30,000 in Singapore currency (in $1,000 denominations), a name card and a mobile phone, the black bag was discovered abandoned on a trolley at the boarding area in Terminal 2 of Changi Airport by Certis Cisco aviation security supervisor Nur Hamzah Rahmat on May 24.

The 39-year-old, who has seen passengers leave behind everything from a bag of new clothes to bottles of perfumes, quickly gave the bag of cash to the information counter. Luckily, it was returned to its rightful owner in three days.

The assistant chief executive at Terminal 2 told The New Paper that honesty was instilled in him by his late grandmother since young.

No stranger to doing good deeds, the man won a silver award for service of the year at the Annual Airport Celebration in 2014 for his attempts to resuscitate an elderly woman — although his efforts were in vain. According to The New Paper, Certis Cisco is considering throwing his name in the running for this year’s internal awards for titles like the commander’s award and the pinnacle award.

Unfortunately, amongst the praises, social media (as usual) surfaced several cynics who assumed the man probably had no choice but to do the right thing, since security cameras abound in the airport.

Come on people, have a little faith in altruism.
